Our Mission

The mission of the H.T. Hayashi Foundation is to support our Hawaii community by investing in arts and culture, human development, environmental conservation, and economic security, with a particular focus on programs serving women, children, and the elderly.

Our Values

“Love is an innate power you have within you that can change your life. Love is the nature of the inner self, your real self.”

– Nana Veary

“At the end of our lives we will not be judged by how many diplomas we have received, how much money we have made or how many great things we have done. We will be judged by: I was hungry and you gave me something to eat. I was naked and you clothed me. I was homeless and you took me in.”

– Mother Teresa

“If we lose love and self respect for each other, this is how we finally die.”

– Maya Angelou

“I began to see that the pen and the words that come from it can be much more powerful than machine guns, tanks or helicopters. We were learning how to struggle. And we were learning how powerful we are when we speak.”

– Malala Yousafzai

“Accountability is essential to personal growth, as well as team growth. How can you improve if you’re never wrong?  If you don’t admit a mistake and take responsibility for it, you’re bound to make the same one again.”

– Pat Summit

“Compassion calls forth our best human capacities – attentional balance and caring, unselfish intention and insight, and ethical action – in a way that no other response does.”

– Roshi Joan Halifax

“It is easy enough to vote right and be consistently with the majority. But it is more often more important to be ahead of the majority and this means being willing to cut the first furrow in the ground and stand alone for a while if necessary.”

– Patsy T. Mink
